Doug Overturf Named 2022 ‘Dealer of the Year’
Doug Overturf, Overturf Motors, Kennewick, received the “Robert P. Mallon Dealer of the Year” award at the Washington State Auto Dealers Association (WSADA) annual convention in May. Selected by a committee of his peers, the Association’s award recognizes Doug’s contributions to the auto industry, quality dealership operations and outstanding community service.
At age 14, Doug started working in the family business, going in every Saturday to wash cars and sweep the lot and service department. Over the summers, he worked in various departments, learning every aspect of the dealership.
After graduating from Eastern Washington University in 1975, he started his successorship training, working with his dad to take over the dealership’s sales management duties. Then everything changed, in the following year his dad suddenly passed and overnight his mother became dealer and he took charge of more management responsibilities.
Through hard work and experience, he purchased the dealership in 1993, and then added additional franchises Audi and Kia.
Doug believes in giving back to his community and has focused on supporting local organizations that help children and those in need. Among the many charitable groups they support are the local Boys and Girls Club, Kennewick National Little League, United Way, hospital foundations and the Children’s Development Center.
In recognition of all that Doug does for WSADA and his community, the Association made a $1,000 contribution in his honor to the Boys & Girls Club of Benton and Franklin Counties, a nonprofit that provides a safe place for children before and after school to build positive relationships and develop important life skills.
In addition to his philanthropy, Alan actively participates in WSADA and the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), and has been a longtime member of both Association’s Grassroots Teams, lobbying his representatives in Olympia and D.C.; is a member of the NADA PAC Presidents Club; and has served as a WSADA Board Member and WSADA Past President.
“It is an honor to recognize Doug for his industry accomplishments and deep commitment to helping others in his community,” said Vicki Giles Fabré, WSADA Executive Vice President. “He is an extraordinary individual, and we consider this contribution to be a particularly meaningful way to celebrate Doug’s receipt of our Association’s most prestigious award.”
When receiving the award, Doug thanked his wife Nancy and family, dealership employees, and fellow dealers for helping shape – and now honor – his work in the industry and in his community.
The award is named for the late Robert P. Mallon, a former Tacoma dealer, who was WSADA President in 1966/67, a past President of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), served 30 years as Washington State’s NADA Director, and founded the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation.
