$1,000 tax credit may be available for residential EV charger installations

Consumers who purchase qualified residential alternative fuel vehicle refueling equipment between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2032 may receive a tax credit of up to $1,000.  To claim the federal tax credit for your home EV charger, or other EV charging equipment, file Form 8911 with the IRS when you file your federal income tax return.  Form 8911 includes instructions for filing and eligibility requirements. Several electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell electric vehicles are eligible for a federal income tax credit starting with purchases this year (2023). Since the latest rules governing EV purchase tax credits (30D) came into effect on April 18, 2023, the list of vehicles eligible for the purchase tax credit has changed. As of August 15, 2023, eight MY 2023 models qualify for the full $7,500 credit, and eight MY 2023 models qualify for the $3,750 credit. There is a partial state sales and use tax exemption for new or used passenger cars, light duty trucks, or medium duty passenger vehicles that are: Exclusively powered by a clean alternative fuel; or A plug-in hybrid vehicle that can travel at least 30 miles on battery power alone. A new vehicle may only have a selling price of up to $45,000 to qualify for the exemption.  A used vehicle may only have a selling price of up to $30,000 to qualify.  A trade-in or manufacturer rebate does not lower the selling price of a vehicle. The vehicle models that qualify for the new IRS EV tax credits

On April 18, 2023, the number of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) eligible for an Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 30D tax credit shrank considerably. According to the Internal Revenue Service, 22 EVs now qualify for IRC Section 30D tax credits, down from 41. Of these, 14 qualify for the full $7,500 credit and 8 for $3,750. Auto Dealers Join International Relief Efforts for Earthquake Survivors

Auto dealers are joining the effort to provide relief to the communities affected by the deadly earthquakes this month. Many survivors of the disasters are now homeless in brutal winter weather without basic necessities. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Feb. 6 was the strongest to hit Turkey since 1939, resulting in 38,044 deaths in Turkey and 41,732 fatalities total in both Turkey and Syria. On Feb. 20, another earthquake, measured at 6.4 magnitude, killed another three people in Turkey and injured over 350 in Turkey and Syria. Learn more here

FTC Extends Safeguards Compliance Deadline

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Nov. 15 announced it is extending by six months the deadline for companies to comply with some of the amendments to the FTC’s Safeguards Rule. Earlier this year, NADA submitted comments to the FTC seeking an extension of the deadline. The deadline for complying with some of the updated requirements of the Safeguards Rule is now June 9, 2023. Hurricane Ian Relief NADA is preparing to provide financial assistance to dealership employees through the NADA Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund (ERF).
